We need a place to play
Youth sports in Monroe are lively, well-attended events. In the spring and fall, our fields are used for multiple practices and games every night of the week. These youth programs have expanded in the last 10 years and now encompass grades K-6 participating in tee-ball, baseball, softball, flag football and soccer. However, we are severly overcrowded and have inadequate facilities.

Monroe has one regulation ball diamond. We also have a smaller ball diamond at the elementary school. In 2008 we have over 225 children participate in baseball or softball, forming 20 teams. Scheduling 20 teams for practice twice a week and 75 home games all on only two fields, can be challenging.

PCM’s youth soccer program currently uses two soccer fields. Both fields are located at our elementary school. We have over 400 children enrolled (K-6).Twenty teams practice twice a week, and several games are played on Sunday afternoons, creating more challenges. Adequate parking, concessions stands and safety concerns will addressed during the constructiontion of MRP.

The Little League fields will provide ample space for our youth baseball and softball programs to expand. The multiuse ball field and open green spaces will provide additional locations for year round recreation activities for youth, high school and adult activities. In all, 5 ball diamonds, equipped with dugouts, bleachers, score boards, batting cages and necessary safety equipment will be constructed.

The Youth Soccer Fields will be located south and east of the ball diamonds. Two youth soccer fields, bleachers and a warm up area are being constructed. In the fall, this area can also be used for flag football practice. Other activities may include, flying kites, playing tag or just laying in the grass watching the clouds roll by.
